Small islands and island groups pepper the North Atlantic surrounding the main island group: To the west lies St Kilda, and Rockall, in increasing order of distance. The status of Rockall as part of the United Kingdom remains a matter of international dispute. About halfway between St Kilda and Rockall is the Anton Dohrn Seamount, a large submerged volcano. To the north lie North Rona and Sula Sgeir, two small and remote islands. Not often included as part of the Outer Hebrides, they nevertheless come under the administration of the Western Isles district.

Ancestry Tours of Longformacus Scotland


Ancestry Tours of Longformacus, Scotland. A small village in Berwickshire in the Scottish Borders near Duns, about 22 miles west of Berwick-upon-Tweed, which is in England. It is in the Lammermuir Hills, and the Dye Water runs through the village, flowing east to join the Whiteadder Water nearby. The opera Lucia di Lammermoor was set in Longformacus. The Southern Upland Way long distance path passes through the village.

Ancestry Tours of Cullen Cross, Scotland. This is a village and former royal burgh in Moray, Scotland, on the North Sea coast, east of Elgin. Cullen has a very long history, and a remarkably well-documented one thanks to the Annals of the local Church of Scotland. These cover hundreds of years in some detail and summarised by Doctor Crammond at the end of the 19th century. Cullen received its first known burgh charter in 1455 AD, from James II.
